​Kahlil Gibran's work is well known and has been widely published in many languages. The substance of this book, however, is contained in the photographs of original manuscript pages of Gibran's writing. Some are parts of published works such as The Prophet, but the book also contains four fragments published here for the first time. Sections begin with a description of the manuscript, and there is a transcription of each page opposite its photograph. These are the first Gibran manuscripts, apart from his letters, to be published in this way. They are of great interest because they demonstrate the process by which Gibran refined his writings into their final form.

​Some aspects of the intellectual and social history of the Arab East between 1890 and 1939 are considered in these seminar proceedings. A review in the International Journal of Middle East Studies commented that this is an “indispensable work for scholars interested in the crosscurrents of intellectual, political, and social thought." There is an emphasis on dimensions not previously explored, such as nationalism, relations with the West, political and social reform, and the role of literature. Thirteen papers examine various aspects of the political aspirations and ideals of the times in Cairo, Beirut, Jebel Lubnan, and Jebel ʿAmel, Damascus, Baghdad, and Sanʿa.

It is also a useful reference and teaching tool benefiting students of Middle Eastern agriculture and entomology. It provides updated information on the comprehensive morphology, distribution, and biology of more than 300 significant pest species of the orders Acarina, Thysanoptera, Orthoptera, Hemiptera, Homoptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, and Diptera, respectively.

​​The titles collected in this index belong primarily to the Middle Kingdom, from the reunification in the Eleventh Dynasty to the end of the Thirteenth. The book is in two parts, Part One being the index proper. Individual entries give the Egyptian spelling, transliteration, translation, and references to where each title appears and where it is discussed. Part Two is a glossary of the individual words used in titles with a discussion of their meanings and uses. The work is an invaluable guide to the researcher interested in the study of the social and political structure of the Middle Kingdom.​

​​This book was published during the period of the Lebanese civil war. Therefore, the fieldwork on which its conclusions are based was carried out under extremely difficult circumstances. Nevertheless, the book provides a unique insight into the state of children in a country where civil war raged for ten years. Health, education, child care institutions, and the psychological and physical effects of war are all surveyed and discussed. Implications for action and a summary of major recommendations for action are also included. Sadly, the book will be of value in other parts of the world where the young are most affected by continuing conflicts.
