This volume presents the proceedings of the Research in Crisis Settings: Challenges and Opportunities conference, a collaborative initiative by the American University of Beirut (AUB) and Birzeit University, supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). Bringing together up to a hundred abstracts and plenary summaries from across twenty-two countries, the collection highlights multidisciplinary research conducted in crisis-affected regions of the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond. The contributions underscore the necessity of rigorous, ethical, and locally grounded scholarship that moves beyond merely documenting crises to actively driving recovery and transformation. Ultimately, this resource aims to bridge the gap between academic research and practical application by advocating for engaged scholarship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the translation of knowledge into meaningful humanitarian and policy impacts.
